Self-care is SO important and it is so easy for us to forget that. It’s important to remember that your needs are just as important as anyone else. It’s so easy for us to get caught up in our every day lives that we forget to take care of ourselves. Self-care helps you feel good about yourself which promotes self love, self acceptance, and boosts your self-esteem. Always remember to take time out of your day to love and take care of yourself 💗
Self-care is crucial to our mental health. One thing that we don’t think about is how much social media can affect our mental health and well-being. It is so easy for us to scroll down our Instagram feed and think “why don’t I look like that”, “why are my lips so small?”, “I need implants ASAP”. Social media pressures us into thinking that we need to look a certain way to be excepted. That can really take a toll on your mental health and well-being. When we take time for self-care, we are able to boost our self-esteem and love ourselves the way we are. I know this sounds impossible, but try not to look at any social media app for an entire weekend and see how you feel. I promise you, you will feel so amazing!!!
Self care helps manage stress. It is important to take time out of the day to decompress and relax. It also helps our physical and mental state of mind.
When we relax we trigger our relaxation response which helps prevent chronic stress. Some ways that we can manage stress and incorporate self-care are different ways of pampering ourselves. Nowadays, you can go on Groupon and find a full body massage for an extremely reasonable price. Take one day out of the month and treat yourself to a full body massage or another form of pampering. A massage helps your body relieve toxins and stress. They also feel amazing which is a plus 😁 Hot baths are also a great way to practice self-care. I like to pour some Epson salt in my bath and light a few candles. It really sets the mood for total relaxation. When pampering yourself, try diffusing some essential oil’s. Lavender is known to help calm the body and relieves stress. You don’t have to spend hundreds of dollars to pamper yourself. It can be as simple as a night at home with a face mask on, in bed watching Netflix.
Sleep, sleep, sleep! Who doesn’t love sleep!? Getting a good night sleep is so important. You should try to get 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night. It’s important that your room doesn’t have any distractions. Make sure you turn your TV off and put your phone on silent before going to bed. This will help with your REM sleep. Getting enough sleep helps you feel energized and ready to take on the day!
Emotional self-care is another big one. Give yourself time to feel all your feelings. When we keep all of our feelings bottled up, it only leads to resentment and can play a factor in having low self-esteem. When we take care of ourselves emotionally, we are able to establish healthy relationships with friends, family, and significant others.
Another aspects of self care is our spiritual wellness. Now, don’t freak out, you don’t have to believe in God to experience and practice in spiritual self care. Meditation is a great way to relax and find balance within. Spiritual self-care is focused around taking care of your soul.
